Slash Disposal
To reduce wildfire hazards in our communities, ARWC and the San Carlos Ranger District host multiple annual wildfire mitigation slash collection sites. These sites are strategically located in high-risk areas of the Arkansas River Basin. Landowners in fire-prone regions are invited to bring woody material from their fire mitigation efforts to these sites.
Currently, slash collection sites are available in the Wet Mountains near San Isabel and Beulah. New sites will be offered as resources permit, with updates posted on this page.
Important Info:
- Bring only natural woody debris from wildfire mitigation efforts completed on your property.
- Limbs and branches from firs, pines, oaks, brush and pine needles will be accepted.
- NO lumber, weeds, grass, sawdust, stumps, wood chips or trash of any kind will be allowed.
- NO ground litter such as mulch will be allowed.
- NO commercial operators at this event. Contractors working for participating landowners are welcome.
The USFS will collect the slash piles for burning next winter. Additional collection dates will be offered throughout the year. We will post that information here. For more information, please contact Allyson Pokrzywinski at allyson.pokrzywinski@usda.gov or (719) 221-5215.
